On 8 July 2025, the Council of the European Union adopted a Decision on the introduction of the euro by the Republic of Bulgaria, in accordance with Article 140(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Under this Decision, the euro will become the official currency of the Republic of Bulgaria as of 1 January 2026, which is the date of its formal introduction in the country.
The official exchange rate at which the national currency will be converted into euro, as specified in the Council Decision of 8 July 2025, is:
EUR 1 = BGN 1.95583.
