The Association of Bulgarian Insurers (ABI) is the representative body of the insurance sector in Bulgaria, established in 1992. Over the years, ABI has become a unifying force for participants in the insurance market and has established itself as a leading voice in shaping common policies for the sector’s development. As of 2025, the Association has 33 member companies, representing over 92% of the Bulgarian insurance market.
Since its establishment, ABI’s core mission has been to protect the common interests and rights of its members at the national, European, and international levels, while supporting them in carrying out their insurance activities. Through its work, the Association contributes to the development of an efficient, competitive, and resilient insurance market.
ABI actively promotes open dialogue between insurers, consumers, government institutions, the technology sector, and non-governmental organizations, with the goal of fostering innovation, fair competition, social responsibility, and improved insurance literacy.
To fulfil its mission and deliver strong outcomes, ABI:
• Harmonizes and coordinates the interests of its members and represents them before national authorities, European institutions, and other stakeholders;
• Actively contributes to the development of the legal framework in the field of insurance by preparing well-founded opinions on draft legislation;
• Coordinates the international relations of its members, establishes contacts, and acts as their representative before international organizations and unions;
• Implements informational and educational initiatives to support member activities, raise public awareness of the insurance industry’s role in economic development and social protection, and stimulate market growth through improved insurance literacy.
ABI operates in line with the principles of democracy, voluntarism, equality, and collegiality, as enshrined in its Statute. The Association’s decisions are taken by consensus and are fully independent of state institutions, in strict compliance with the applicable regulatory framework.
