The 15th International Conference “Insurance Matters: Protecting and Investing in a Changing World”, organized by Insurance Europe—the European insurance and reinsurance federation—took place on 5 June 2025 in Brussels, Belgium. The forum brought together leaders from the insurance industry, representatives of regulatory authorities, policymakers, and civil society.
The conference program addressed some of the most pressing issues of our time, including fostering investment, tackling climate change, and leveraging innovation to meet people’s needs.
The first panel, “Driving Savings and Growth: Insurers as Investors,” focused on the crucial role of insurers as institutional investors. Leading investment experts from Europe, the US, Asia, and Africa discussed how insurers make investment decisions, allocate capital, and drive long-term value creation, while balancing risk, returns, and sustainability objectives. Key questions were raised: Where can the industry expand its impact? What regulatory or structural barriers hinder its ability to deploy capital effectively?
The second panel addressed risks linked to climate change. Representatives of leading insurers and policymakers debated how the industry is evolving to deal with natural catastrophe (natcat) risks in an era of escalating climate-driven disasters. The discussion explored global best practices, innovative risk-sharing models, and new approaches to insurance.
