Travel Assistance Insurance provides peace of mind and financial protection when we are on the road. It covers medical expenses in case of an accident or acute illness, including emergency dental care, medical transportation, and repatriation. This was explained by Rumyana Betova, Executive Director of Euroins Insurance Company, in an interview for Bulgarian National Radio, realized with the support of ABZ.
In addition to core medical coverage, extended packages may include protection against events like theft or loss of luggage, travel delays or missed flights, lost documents, or unexpected trip curtailments. When engaging in activities such as extreme sports, travelers are advised to purchase additional coverage. Another increasingly popular product is Trip Cancellation Insurance, which reimburses costs such as deposits or cancellation penalties in case of unforeseen events. Travel Assistance Insurance has broader territorial coverage than the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and offers additional benefits such as coverage outside Europe, repatriation, and document loss. The price is highly affordable, with a seven-day European policy with extended coverage and a €10,000 limit costing around €5. For active tourism within Bulgaria – including hiking or skiing – domestic travel insurance is also recommended. Consumers should review coverage details and exclusions carefully, especially for specific needs such as chronic illnesses or high-risk activities, and consider higher coverage limits where necessary.
