The Association of Bulgarian Insurers (ABZ) has been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award for its longstanding contribution to road safety, as part of the Annual Road Safety Awards competition. The award was presented to Plamen Shinov, Deputy Chair of the ABZ Management Board, by Vladimir Todorov, Chair of the Board of the Bulgarian Association of Accident Victims, during the 10th anniversary edition of the awards ceremony, organized by the Road Safety Annual Awards Foundation. The event was attended by representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, media, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
“This award is a recognition and a true incentive for us to continue expanding our activities and partnerships aimed at improving road safety in Bulgaria. We believe that every step in this direction has the potential to save lives and give people a future,” said Plamen Shinov, who expressed special thanks to ABZ’s long-standing partners — the Guarantee Fund and the General Directorate “National Police” of the Ministry of Interior.
Road Safety – A Strategic Priority for ABZ
Road safety is one of the core strategic priorities of ABZ. Over the years, the association has launched and supported numerous long-term initiatives in this field, including:
“No Mistakes on the Road” – A Flagship Initiative
One of ABZ’s most impactful and widely recognized projects is the educational online quiz “No Mistakes on the Road”, aimed at young road users. The quiz is freely available on the ABZ website and presents illustrated traffic situations, challenging children to spot the mistake and learn the correct behavior. Each question includes a brief educational explanation and an updated, correct version of the image.
The quiz is often used in prize-based campaigns that enjoy strong public engagement — more than 80,000 participants took part in the last two editions alone.
New Focus: E-Scooter Safety
ABZ has recently launched a new initiative focusing on road safety for electric scooter users — a timely topic given the growing popularity of personal electric mobility devices. The campaign aims to promote awareness of the specific risks associated with e-scooter use and to encourage safer behavior on the road among this rapidly expanding group of road users.
With its broad portfolio of initiatives, strategic partnerships, and consistent public engagement, ABZ continues to play a leading role in promoting road safety culture and protecting the lives of all road users, especially children and vulnerable groups.
