Winners of the 2022 Edition of the “Insurers for Society” Competition Announced

The winners of the 8th edition of the “Insurers for Society 2022” competition received their awards at a formal ceremony held on 5 October 2022. With a focus on societal needs, the insurance community marked its professional holiday – Insurer’s Day.

The competition is jointly organized by the Association of Bulgarian Insurers (ABZ), the Bulgarian Association of Insurance Brokers, the Association of Insurance Brokers in Bulgaria, and United Insurance Brokers. The winners are selected through voting by the member insurance companies and brokers of the associations.

First place was awarded to the social campaign of Lev Ins AD“Protect the Child Online”.

The campaign addresses online bullying and child exploitation, highlighting prevention through education and behavioral awareness in digital environments. With national coverage, it targets parents, teachers, and students. The campaign ambassadors are Yavor Kolev, the country’s leading cybersecurity expert, and Ivet Goranova, Olympic karate champion. An online platform has been developed, offering free educational videos for children and parents, alongside live and virtual sessions. A key priority is in-person educational lectures across the country. From March to June 2022 alone, nearly 100,000 pupils, parents, teachers, and public officials were trained.

The first-place award was presented by Konstantin Velev, Chair of ABZ, to Yavor Kolev, who remarked: “This recognition motivates us to continue until we reach every Bulgarian child. Children are the most vulnerable group in the digital space, and the dangers are numerous. At Lev Ins, we have made it our mission to ensure the safety and security of children online. We believe that prevention through education and behavioral culture is the most important element in the fight against cybercrime.”

Second place went to the initiative of Generali Insurance ADThe Human Safety Net: Opening the Way for Early Childhood Services in Bulgaria.

The initiative, created by the Generali Group as part of its sustainability strategy, was launched in Bulgaria in 2020 to support disadvantaged individuals. It is built on the idea of a “chain of help” – those supported may one day help others, creating a ripple of positive change.

In Bulgaria, Generali Insurance AD collaborates with the “For Our Children” Foundation to develop the programme. It targets children under 7 and their families living in vulnerable conditions. In 2021, through fundraising and personal donations, the initiative supported 915 families. A total of 181 children received access to development and rehabilitation activities – 104 more than in 2020. Additionally, 118 families participated in adoptive parent training, and services at the Early Childhood Development Complexes in Sofia and Plovdiv were expanded, along with mobile social services in Plovdiv region.

The second-place award was presented by Monika Minkova, Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian Association of Insurance Brokers, to Zhaneta Djambazka, Executive Director of Generali Bulgaria. She accepted the award stating: “This award is a significant recognition for us at Generali Insurance AD and for our initiative The Human Safety Net. It proves how important our role is as a company that supports society, especially those in need. The positive impact we achieved in 2021 speaks volumes. Together with our partners from the ‘For Our Children’ Foundation, we helped over 900 families and enabled more than 180 children under 6 to access rehabilitation and essential early development services.”

Third place was awarded to the project “Listen Up” by Allianz Bulgaria in support of the deaf community.

The project, carried out in partnership with the “Listen Up” Foundation, is one of the largest social initiatives supporting deaf people in Bulgaria, who number around 100,000. Allianz Bulgaria is committed to ensuring accessible financial services for them. The company’s materials have been translated into sign language, and every customer with hearing impairment can receive real-time consultations with a sign language interpreter. Through the company’s website, a digital platform allows users to connect to an interpreter with the click of a button.

The third-place award was presented to Veselin Angelov, Executive Director of Allianz Bulgaria, by Yuri Kopach, Deputy Chair of ABZ. Mr. Angelov accepted the award with the following words: “It is a great honor for me to accept this award. Allianz Bulgaria’s corporate social responsibility policy focuses on causes that support vulnerable groups. With the ‘Listen Up’ initiative, our goal is to welcome the deaf community and communicate with them freely by providing access to informational materials and, most importantly, real-time sign language interpretation. Our broader goal is to raise public awareness about the challenges faced by the deaf and to attract allies to our cause. Together, we can achieve much more when united around a shared purpose. This recognition – ‘Insurers for Society’ – shows we are on the right path. I can confidently say that ‘Listen Up’ has transformed us, and has changed the lives and thinking of many others, helping build a better future for all.”
