The 20th anniversary edition of the Financial Supervision Commission’s educational programme for students “The Non-Banking Financial Sector in Bulgaria” was launched on 21 October 2022 and will continue through mid-November. This year, 22 students from vocational schools with economics and finance profiles are participating, representing the cities of Blagoevgrad, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Varna, Kyustendil, Plovdiv, Sofia, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Shumen, Gotse Delchev, Sliven, Smolyan, Montana, Silistra, Petrich, Kardzhali, Ruse, Varna, Yambol, and Dryanovo. The programme offers a balanced mix of online presentations and virtual interactions dedicated to the pension insurance, insurance, and capital markets. This year’s edition also includes lectures on fintech business models, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, the Green Deal, cybersecurity, cryptocurrencies, and more.

ABZ is a long-standing partner of the FSC in this well-established and proven educational initiative.

As part of the programme, on 26 October 2022, Nina Kolchakova, Secretary General of the Association of Bulgarian Insurers (ABZ), met virtually with the students to introduce them to the fundamentals of insurance, its historical origins and development over the centuries, the functions of the insurance market, types of insurance, and main insurance products. She also presented current market data on the insurance sector in Bulgaria and Europe. A key highlight of her presentation was the evolution of insurance in Bulgaria in the context of its 140th anniversary, celebrated this year.

“Building solid financial and insurance literacy is among the strategic priorities of ABZ, and we are actively working in this direction. We believe that this is the way for young people to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their professional and life goals,” said Nina Kolchakova during her presentation.

As part of their practical training, students also took a virtual tour to learn about the operations of Bulstrad Life Vienna Insurance Group.
