The Winners of the 9th Edition of the “Insurers for Society 2023” Competition Were Announced at an Official Ceremony

The winners of the ninth edition of the “Insurers for Society 2023” competition received their awards at an official ceremony held on 3 October 2023. With a focus on the needs of society, the insurance community marked its professional holiday – The Day of the Insurer.

The competition is organised by the Association of Bulgarian Insurers (ABZ), the Bulgarian Association of Insurance Brokers, the Association of Insurance Brokers in Bulgaria, and United Insurance Brokers. The winners are selected through voting by insurance companies and insurance brokers who are members of the respective associations.

The insurance community awarded first place to the initiative by Generali Insurance – The Human Safety Net – “Let’s Make Early Childhood Services Accessible in Bulgaria”.

The first-place award was presented to Nikolay Stanchev, CEO and Chair of the Management Board of Generali Insurance, by Vladimir Savov, Deputy Chair of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). Nikolay Stanchev accepted the award with the words:
“This meaningful award is recognition for all our colleagues who are active volunteers in the initiative The Human Safety Net. Without their enthusiasm, dedication, and efforts, we would not have come this far. By the end of 2022, we had jointly provided support to more than 3,300 parents and over 2,600 children in Bulgaria.”

The initiative was created by the Generali Group to support people in vulnerable situations. It is based on the concept of a “chain of help,” where those who are supported can one day help others, creating a chain of positive change. Since 2020, Generali Insurance has been partnering in Bulgaria with the “For Our Children” Foundation, jointly developing the program “Let’s Make Early Childhood Services Accessible in Bulgaria.” In 2022 alone, Generali Insurance organised various fundraising initiatives, with over 200 volunteers participating. As a result, more than 3,330 parents and nearly 2,620 children received support. An additional 1,796 children benefited indirectly from the initiative during this period.

Second place in the competition went to the “Life Savers” Program by Groupama Bulgaria.

Selin Bolar, CEO of Groupama Bulgaria, received the award from Ivaylo Ivanov, Governor of the National Social Security Institute, and shared with the audience:
“The ‘Life Savers’ program was launched last year with the support of Groupama Group and is unique in the European insurance sector. The name we chose for this program says a lot – we help save lives by providing free training to people on how to help others in need. In Bulgaria, we have trained over 3,000 families, and Group-wide, we are already approaching 1 million trained European citizens. We are continuing with determination, because there is nothing more valuable in this world than saving a human life! And for us, the insurers – this mission is part of our DNA.”

The “Life Savers” Program focuses on raising awareness and providing first aid training. It is being implemented in France, Greece, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey, Bulgaria, China, Hungary, and Romania, and aims to reach 1 million trained individuals in basic life-saving techniques. Since 2022, Groupama Bulgaria has been organising training sessions for its employees, clients, and partners, and participating in various events to promote first aid skills.

Third place went to the national educational campaign “Protect the Child Online” by Lev Ins Insurance Company.

Pavel Dimitrov, Executive Director of Lev Ins, accepted the award from Yuri Kopach, Chair of ABZ, with the following words:
“Lev Ins is a traditional leader in setting the standards for both physical and cyber security, and the guild’s recognition for a second consecutive year proves it! Over the past two years, our ‘Protect the Child Online’ campaign has reached more than 130,000 students, their teachers, and parents. The face of our campaign, Yavor Kolev, together with our team, spoke with children in every provincial city, large and small municipalities, and even tiny villages across the country about the dangers online. In recent months, we placed special focus on parents, as it is extremely important that they understand the need to talk to their children about their online interactions.”

The “Protect the Child Online” campaign aims to educate society and prevent one of the greatest threats of the 21st century – cybercrime – and to foster a culture of digital safety from an early age. Over the course of a year and a half, the campaign team conducted open lessons involving more than 130,000 students, teachers, and parents across the country.
