Home is our personal world, where the warmest and most cherished moments of life unfold. But we must realize that a natural disaster, fire, or theft can confront us with serious financial and emotional challenges. It is a matter of personal responsibility to protect ourselves from such risks—and the solution is to have property insurance. The problem is that in Bulgaria, less than 10% of homes are insured, which is an issue not only on an individual level, but also societally. In the event of a major natural disaster, hundreds of households can suffer severe losses, and there is no other mechanism—apart from insurance—that can support recovery from damages.
The ABZ campaign “Home Insurance: Preserve Your World” aims to clarify the need for and benefits of property insurance as a tool for ensuring financial and life stability. The key focus areas are on the practical aspects of choosing the most appropriate insurance policy for individual circumstances and on how to report claims.
“The latest ABI information campaign deliberately focuses on property insurance. Natural disasters are becoming more frequent—on a global scale, economic losses from floods, hurricanes, hailstorms, and droughts have increased 15 to 20 times compared to those from 50 years ago. In Bulgaria alone, several serious floods occurred last year. Other damaging events that can affect our property are also a reality. Through this campaign, we provide people with useful information about property insurance and explain its protective role for personal well-being,” said Konstantin Velev, Chair of ABZ.
The ABZ initiative “In Focus: Property Insurance” – “Home Insurance: Preserve Your World” will run for two months and will include a variety of activities such as a social media campaign through the ABI pages on Facebook and LinkedIn, a prize quiz game “What’s Your Insurance IQ: Property Insurance”, and informational events. For the purposes of the campaign, ABZ has prepared a series of materials explaining the benefits of property insurance, the main steps in selecting and purchasing coverage suitable for one's personal circumstances, the types of property insurance products offered on the Bulgarian market, and their key features.
