On 24 April 2025, the Prof. Dr. Veleslav Gavriyski Foundation and the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) hosted a roundtable discussion on professional training, staffing, and ways to encourage young people to pursue careers in insurance and social security. The event brought together leading representatives of academia and business, including ABZ Chair Nikolay Stanchev, who emphasized the sector’s urgent need for well-prepared young specialists. He highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between universities and the industry through scholarships, internships, and active promotion of career opportunities in insurance.
During the discussion, participants identified key challenges such as limited public awareness of the insurance profession, demographic trends, and insufficient understanding of insurance and pensions among students. Business leaders, including Svetla Nestorova and Evelina Miltenova, underlined the need to enhance financial literacy and promote insurance and pension culture. Academic representatives also shared initiatives to make education more attractive, such as practice-oriented training, public lectures, internships, and digital career platforms.
As an outcome, all parties expressed support for developing a Roadmap with concrete joint actions and timelines to strengthen strategic partnership between academia and the insurance industry. ABZ was recognized as a key partner in this alliance, committed to fostering the next generation of insurance professionals and supporting sustainable sector development.
