On 15–16 January 2026, representatives of the Association of Bulgarian Insurers (ABZ) took part in a regular meeting of the Group of Insurance Associations from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), hosted by the Association of Insurance Companies in Austria (VVO). As part of the forum, a meeting of the Directors General of the national insurance associations from the region was also held, with the participation of Nina Koltchakova, Secretary General of ABZ.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an open and professional exchange on key European regulatory topics with a direct impact on the insurance sector. Discussions covered initiatives related to digitalisation and access to data, the Framework for Financial Data Access (FIDA), the Retail Investment Strategy (RIS), “value for money” approaches, sustainable finance, natural catastrophe risks, as well as the forthcoming implementation of the Insurance Recovery and Resolution Directive (IRRD) and insurance guarantee schemes (IGS).
The discussions highlighted the need for greater regulatory predictability and proportionality, simplification of the regulatory framework, a reduction of overlapping requirements, and proper consideration of national market specificities, with a view to safeguarding the competitiveness of the insurance sector.
