Representatives of the Bulgarian Insurance Association participated in a UNWE discussion forum on sustainable and socially responsible development

Representatives of the Bulgarian Insurance Association (ABZ) took part in the discussion forum “Education, Institutions and Business: Partnership for a Sustainable and Socially Responsible Future,” organized by the University of National and World Economy (UNWE). The forum brought together representatives from Academia, institutions, and business to discuss the challenges facing education, social security, and sustainable development.

In the panel “Social Security and Partnerships for Inclusive Development", moderated by Prof. Irena Markova, PhD, participants included Veselin Angelov, a member of the ABZ Management Board; Rositsa Vartonik, Communications and Financial Education Advisor at ABZ; Evelina Miltenova from the Bulgarian Association of Supplementary Pension Security Companies, Prof. Mariela Deliverska, PhD, from University for Insurance and Finance, and Assoc. Prof. Ralitsa Pandurska, PhD, from UNWE. The discussion was dedicated to the challenges of social security, the role of insurance and supplementary pension insurance, and the importance of financial literacy.

Veselin Angelov emphasized the role of insurance in the financial sustainability of citizens, businesses, and society. In the context of growing risks and demographic challenges, insurance protection is of great importance in mitigating the financial consequences of adverse events and complements public social protection systems.

Rositsa Vartonik presented the main findings from the 2026 national survey of consumer attitudes toward insurance. The data show a significant increase in trust in the insurance sector and the use of voluntary insurance over the past six years. At the same time, insufficient awareness remains a major obstacle to expanding insurance protection, which highlights the need for systematic efforts to improve insurance literacy.

The discussion highlighted the need for cooperation between education, institutions, and business to build more sustainable systems for social and financial security.

The BIA’s participation in the forum is part of its long-standing partnership with UNWE, which is also developing within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation signed between the two organizations. The common goal is to promote the links between academic education and insurance practice, the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and support for the preparation of future specialists in the financial sector. The cooperation also creates opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at improving financial and insurance literacy.
